On September 14, 2024 The G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, reverberated with energy and excitement as it was the venue for the much-anticipated CISCE Regional Sports & Games 2024, an athletic meet bringing together schools from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The event, hosted by St. Joseph's School, Asmangadh Palace, Malakpet, Hyderabad, celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and showcased the extraordinary talent of young athletes across the region.

The event commenced with an impressive inaugural ceremony, graced by esteemed guests, including Mr. L. Srinivas Reddy, an internationally recognized Kabaddi coach, and Ms. Vritti Agarwal, an acclaimed international swimming champion, who joined as Chief Guests. The presence of Mr. Y. Venkateshwar Rao, the District Youth Sports Officer, as the Guest of Honour further elevated the occasion. Each dignitary brought a wealth of experience and motivation, encouraging the young athletes to strive for excellence.

The opening ceremony began with the assembly of athletes and the soulful invocation presented by the choir from St. Joseph's School, Malakpet. The flag-hoisting ceremony, led by the distinguished guests, set a patriotic tone, followed by the synchronised March Past where the athletes marched in perfect harmony, embodying the unity and determination that are hallmarks of true sportsmanship.

In her welcome address, Mrs. U.A. Sundari, Secretary and Treasurer of ASISC AP & Telangana Region and Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Malakpet, highlighted the importance of sports in nurturing holistic growth in students. She expressed pride in seeing young athletes push their limits, emphasising that sports foster resilience, teamwork, and discipline. She acknowledged the hard work of sports coordinators, teachers, and volunteers whose dedication ensured the event’s success.

The electrifying atmosphere reached its peak during the torch relay, symbolising unity, dedication, and the indomitable spirit of the games. The torch, passed from one young athlete to another, culminated in the lighting of the cauldron, marking the official opening of the meet.

This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony, where the athletes pledged to compete with integrity and fairness, a reminder that true victory lies in upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.

The day proceeded with a thrilling array of athletic events. The track and field events witnessed students striving for personal bests, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of peers, teachers, and family members.

The three day event saw a noteworthy participation of around 1100 athletes from 37 AP and Telangana Schools. The young athletes proved their dedication and dexterity across multiple categories. And claimed their positions. Nutritious breakfast and lunch were provided at the venue while the dinner was provided to non-local students at their place of lodging, which too was arranged for by the host school.

As the games concluded, a valedictory function celebrated the accomplishments of athletes and honored those who made the event possible. Chief Guest Mr. Shiva Sena Reddy, Chairman of the Sports Authority of Telangana, and Ms. Nandini Agasara, an Indian athletic star and Asian Games bronze medalist, addressed the gathering. Their words highlighted the significance of sports in building character and resilience.

Awards were presented to victorious athletes. In her closing remarks, Mrs. Sundari reminded participants that while medals mark achievements, it’s the spirit of friendship and the values learned that truly last.

The success of this regional athletic meet is a testament to the collaborative efforts of numerous individuals and institutions. On the final day of the event Mrs. Sundari extended heartfelt gratitude to the principals of participating schools for encouraging a balanced focus on academics and sports. Special thanks were given to the staff of St. Joseph’s School, Habsiguda, for accommodating participants, and to the sports coordinators and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event a reality.

The meet concluded with anticipation for the CISCE National Athletics 2024, set to be hosted by St. Joseph’s School, Malakpet, on September 25th to September 27th at the same venue. Winners of the regional events look forward to competing at the national level, representing the AP & Telangana region.

The CISCE Regional Sports & Games 2024 was a resounding success, embodying the values of determination, unity, and resilience. As the young athletes dispersed with new dreams and aspirations, they left a mark on the stadium—a testament to their unyielding spirit and the promise of future triumphs.
