Report on ASISC Zonal Level (Telangana) Debate Competition

  • Registrations began at 8: 15 a.m. with 16 schools registering for the competition.
  • Topic was announced by the Vice-Principal, Mrs Anjana Murthy at 9:00 a.m. – Industrialization at the Cost of the Environment.
  • Participants proceeded to the Library for preparation.
  • The esteemed panel of judges included Mr. Harish Reddy, President of the Hyderabad Toastmasters Club, Dr. Reena Dewan, Head of the English Department at St. Francis College for Women, and Ms. Bhawani Balasubramaniam, an English Language Specialist and Associate Professor at CVR College of Engineering.
  • Moderator - Miss Darshini Geetha Krishnan, alumnus from the batch of 2018-19, an accomplished debater, won the Best Speaker Award in the All-India Turncoat Debate.
  • The formal inauguration began at 10 a.m. with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address from Mrs. Anjana Murthy, the Vice-Principal.
  • The debate commenced after the moderator outlined the guidelines.
  • Participants showcased their eloquence and persuasive abilities, engaging in a spirited exchange of ideas.
  • A break was taken while the tabulation of scores was conducted.
  • The moderator summarized the event and shared her insights.
  • The judges addressed the gathering and announced the results.
  • Results :
    • Winning Team: NASR Girls School
    • Runners-Up Team: Johnson Grammar School, Mallapur
    • Best Speaker Award: Saranya Srikanth (St. Teresa High School)
  • Certificates were given to the winners.
  • Director and Principal, Gitanjali Devshala, Mrs Madhvi Chandra congratulated the winners.
  • The event culminated with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Suggestion:

To ensure a smoother and more manageable event, it is recommended to limit the number of participating schools to 10 teams at one venue as the registration started at 8.15 am and went on till 4.30 pm with the prize distribution and National Anthem. The judges found it difficult to spend such long hours in school and also focus on the debate.
